The government has a hard job ahead of it trying to sell the need for drug reform. And it seems the military regime is convinced the best way to handle this dichotomy is to try to ramrod through changes in policies towards illicit drugs. Gen Paiboon has become the regime's front man in a so-far confusing attempt to reform drug laws. This family of currently illicit drugs, commonly called ya ba, is responsible for most drug peddling, drug use and drug smuggling. That's a costly step, but an absolutely necessary one if drug reform is to succeed.
